Artists & Activists series, ongoing
As a resident of Roxbury for the past decade, I take inspiration from the Black History that surrounds me, especially the art of Roxbury native John Wilson, whose majestic sculpture Eternal Presence I pass on daily walks. In 2015, following the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, and the resultant uprisings and Black Lives Matter protests across the country, I began my own Black History portrait project. My portraits strive to capture the pride, strength, truth and fearlessness shared by these icons, artists and activists. All paintings are 14 x 14 inches, made with a variety of media including walnut ink, watercolor, gouache, and oil paint on paper or Yupo.
