How We Get Through: Scenes from a Pandemic, ongoing
This project began in a sketchbook in the summer of 2020, and soon spilled over into larger works on paper, Yupo, canvas and public art. The Pandemic Paintings are a collection of moments, unique to the time we are in and to my personal experiences. The paintings are inspired both by my own wanderings through my neighborhood of Roxbury and the parks that make up the Emerald Necklace, and stories from the news that define the times for me. I have found consolation in the writing and creations of Jenny Odell, Michaela Coel, and so many others, in the quiet righteousness expressed in the actions of Christian Cooper, and the fight for social justice embraced globally in the summer of 2020. These paintings are a record of moments of beauty, joy, heartbreak, communion, and solace.
